About the Human Immunology Grant Program

We are in the middle of the application process. The 2009 program will be announced at the end of March 2009. Please check back at that time for more details.

Please see the previous announcement below for general information on this program.

The Dana Foundation will support promising new investigators who are beginning careers in patient-based immunology research during this demanding time of tight funding constraints for new researchers. The Foundation, therefore, is shifting its focus away from support of human immunology research consortia to support of Dana Scholars.

To be considered for a Dana Scholar award, candidates should be new faculty carrying out independent research e.g., postdoctoral fellows transitioning to their first faculty position, as instructors or assistant professors (with one or no current R01 awards). Scholars should be initiating or engaged in research in immunology that requires the study of patients or materials from patients. One of the areas of interest is the brain.

Dana Scholars will be eligible to receive $400,000-$450,000 in support (which can include up to 10 percent for equipment; but the Foundation does not fund indirect costs), payable over a three-year period.  Several Dana Scholar awards will be made late in 2008.

Preliminary applications should include an NIH-style CV, and a two-page description of their research goals, current research in pursuit of those goals, and future research perspectives. The NIH CV will help the referees evaluate past accomplishments. Senior immunologists (professors or associate professors) are requested to encourage promising candidates to submit an application. A letter from the recommending immunologist would be helpful.

The deadline for receipt of applications is Thursday, May 29, 2008 by noon. Six copies, each stapled, should be mailed to:

Angie Marin
The Dana Foundation
745 Fifth Ave., Suite 900
New York, NY 10151

Selected applicants will be invited to submit final five-page proposals by Thursday, July 31, 2008. Questions may be directed to Angie Marin at 212.223.4040 or amarin@dana.org.
