Olivera Finn Sees New Paradigm Emerging in Tumor Immunology

Gives Presidential Address at American Association of Immunologists

Olivera J. Finn, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and President of the American Association of Immunologists (AAI), gave the Presidential Address at the AAI conference in San Diego, July 2008.   In the talk, “Immunological Weapons Acquired Early in Life Win Battles with Cancer Later in Life, Dr. Finn, spoke of her early work in immunology and the publication in 1989 of her research in discovering the first cancer antigen, a tumor molecule that educes reaction from immune cells. Dr. Finn, a former Dana grantee, said that now she is  seeing “a new paradigm emerging in tumor immunology that may have a more general application to our understanding of immunosurveillance of not only cancer, but also viral and bacterial infections.”  The Journal of Immunology has kindly allowed the Dana Foundation access to Dr. Finn’s speech.
